Severe fog causes flight delays and cancellations at Agartala airport

Severe fog conditions at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala caused significant disruption on Thursday, stranding over 200 passengers. Around seven flights faced delays, while one was cancelled due to near-zero visibility in the morning.

According to a senior official from the Airport Authority of India, the fog heavily impacted morning flights. “One flight was cancelled, and six to seven flights were delayed, leaving passengers waiting at the airport,” the official said. Operations gradually resumed after 1 PM as visibility improved, allowing flights to land and depart.

The incident underscores the recurring challenges of weather-related disruptions during winter, highlighting the need for enhanced airport infrastructure and contingency measures. This development comes as Tripura continues its push for economic growth, with Chief Minister Manik Saha recently lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the state’s Agar Export Policy to boost the local economy.
