Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati passes away at 99

Dwarkapeeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati breathed his last at the age of 99 in Madhya Pradesh`s Narsinghpur on Sunday. He died of a minor coronary heart attack at 3:50 in the ashram.

Shankaracharyaji’s last rites will be completed on Monday. Swami Swarupananda, who was Shankaracharya of Dwarka, Sharda, and Jyotish Peetha, was not retaining well for more than a year, he said.

Shankaracharya was born in 1924 in Dighori village in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh as Pathiram Upadhyay. At the age of 9 e left his home in pursuit of God. He was imprisoned during the freedom struggle. He became Shankracharya in 1981, his followers said, including Shankaracharya’s 99th birthday was once celebrated recently.
