The West Bengal government on Thursday extended the Covid-related restrictions on services and movement in the state till 15 June in view of an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases. Mamata Banerjee, on April 30, had decided to impose an indefinite prohibition on several things, including shopping malls, markets, restaurants and bars, gyms, and swimming pools, with immediate effect. Once a Covid hotspot, Dharavi records just three new cases, lowest in second wave

The 2.5 sq km sprawl known as Asia’s largest slum,Dharavi recorded three new Covid cases this Wednesday,which is the lowest since February 11, when the second wave clashed through the city. Dharavi has reported 6,798 cases since last year’s outbreak, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Around 36 per cent (2,500) of cases were recorded in March and April this year. Indian Covid-19 variant found in at least 53 territories: WHO

The coronavirus variant first detected in India has now been officially recorded in 53 territories, a World Health Organization report showed Wednesday.
