Eviction drive major steps in Nagaon district

The Assam government will launch a major eviction drive on 1,200 bighas (about 397 acres) of allegedly encroached land in the Nagaon district. The exercise will be conducted from December 19 in and around Batadrava, the holy birthplace of Srimanta Shankardeva, and is likely to last for several days. According to sources, more than 700 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the Greater Batadrava area and mobilization of forces has been ongoing for the past 3-4 days. Assam trespass on Meghalaya land

On Wednesday, Rangbah Shnong of Umsaw Lum Durbar, Paul Star Lyngdoh alleged that the Assam Forest Department had moved into Meghalaya and "illegally" fenced off the agricultural land of Khasi villagers. A policeman from Mawlasnai outpost and a magistrate visited the spot and submitted a report. A report has been sent to take legal action in this regard. 14 crore drugs seized from Guwahati ambulance

Mustard oil will be provisioned, pact signed by Assam Rifles and KVIC

1,179 Bru militants of two outfits surrendered in Assam's Hailakandi district. Director General of Police (Special Branch) Hiren Chandra Nath said the surrendered rebels belonged to United Democratic Liberation Front of Barak Valley (UDLF-BV) and Bru Revolutionary Army of Union (BRAU).
