Six candidates are in the fray for the upcoming by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency in Tripura.
The candidates are representing various political parties including CPI(M), INC, BJP, SUCI(C), Amara Bangalee, while one is an Independent candidate.
Over 46,000 voters are eligible to cast their votes across 55 polling stations.
Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Brijesh Pandey on Monday briefed the media in Agartala on preparations for the bypoll.
Polling will be held on April 9 from 7am to 5pm, while campaigning will officially end on the April 7 at 5 pm, marking the beginning of the 48-hour silence period. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4, 2026, starting at 8 am.
Adequate security and webcasting arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polling. Dry days have been declared from April 7 to April 9, and polling day will be a public holiday.
Voters have been advised to carry valid ID and participate actively in the electoral process.
In order to maintain transparency, 75 micro observers, including reserves, have been deployed.
For expenditure monitoring and law enforcement, six naka points, 24 static surveillance teams, 12 flying squad teams, and video surveillance teams have been put in place.
