‘Skill Stackers’ in demand: LinkedIn lists 5 fastest-growing skill clusters for 2026

As rapid technological disruption reshapes hiring patterns, LinkedIn’s Skills on the Rise 2026 report has identified five high-growth skill stacks that professionals must build to stay competitive — AI & Automation, Data & Analytics, IT & Cybersecurity, Business & Growth, and People & Leadership.

The report notes that 38% of Indian job seekers feel unprepared for how quickly technology is changing job requirements. While 46% of recruiters globally now rely on skills data to fill roles, 74% of recruiters in India say finding qualified talent is harder than ever.

In AI & Automation, skills such as Prompt Engineering, Workflow Automation, LLMOps, AutoML and API integration are gaining traction beyond engineering into HR, sales and consulting. Data & Analytics roles are prioritising Querying, Database Optimisation, Data Storytelling and Data Ethics, with a focus on translating insight into decisions. IT & Cybersecurity capabilities such as Cloud Infrastructure, IT Automation, Incident Management, Real-Time Monitoring and Threat Detection are central to digital scale. Business functions are valuing Relationship Management, GTM & Growth Strategy, Negotiation and Operational Efficiency, while Collaboration, Team Management, Stakeholder Management, Budget and Project Management define emerging leadership demand.

“For years, young professionals were told to specialise. In 2026, that rule is changing,” said Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and India Senior Managing Editor, adding that adaptability through “skill stacking” is now key to hiring and promotion.

LinkedIn has made select LinkedIn Learning courses free until March 31, 2026 to support professionals in building these in-demand skills.

In Kolkata, demand for hybrid talent is rising across IT services, consulting, education, financial services and sales sectors. Employers are increasingly seeking professionals who combine AI fluency and data capability with relationship management and collaboration skills, reflecting the city’s expanding digital economy and enterprise transformation landscape.
