Sony LIV enters Bengali originals with ‘Jazz City’, set in the heart of Kolkata

Kolkata is set to take centre stage in the digital entertainment space as Sony LIV launches its first-ever Bengali original series, Jazz City. The series will begin streaming exclusively on Sony LIV from February 6, marking the platform’s formal entry into Bengali storytelling.

Set against the moody backdrop of Kolkata’s jazz clubs and narrow bylanes, Jazz City presents a dark and layered narrative that blends music, mystery, and moral conflict. The story follows a hustler burdened by his past, who is drawn into a world of power struggles, hidden loyalties, and difficult choices. The city’s quiet corners and late-night music scenes form an essential part of the narrative.

Actor Arifin Shuvoo, who plays the lead character Jimmy, said the series explores emotions through sound and silence rather than words alone. He noted that music plays a key role in expressing inner conflicts and unspoken tensions. Creator and director Soumik Sen described Kolkata as a city of contrasts, where music and mood drive the story forward. Produced by Studio 9 and Studio Next, the series features a strong ensemble cast including Sauraseni Maitra and Shataf Figar. With Jazz City, Sony LIV brings a fresh, music-driven crime drama rooted deeply in Kolkata’s atmosphere.
