Sony LIV unveiled its upcoming original series Jazz City at a star-studded press meet in Kolkata, announcing that the show will premiere on March 19, 2026. Set in 1970s Kolkata, Jazz City is a fictional story blending soulful music with human conflict, capturing the city’s old-world charm. The series revolves around a dimly lit jazz club in 1971 that becomes a silent witness to history, where coded conversations echo through melodies and the fight for identity takes centre stage.
Director and creator Soumik Sen said the series was born from a desire to tell a deeply human story set in a transformative era. Calling it his homage to the times, Sen expressed hope that audiences would connect with his creative vision. Producer Arpita Chatterjee said the project was a collaborative journey, praising the cast, crew and Sony LIV for building the world of Jazz City with passion and integrity.
Actress Sauraseni Maitra said the emotional and layered storyline drew her in, adding that her character Sheela embodies strength and compassion. Actor Arifin Shuvoo described his character Jimmy Roy as layered and morally complex. Created, written and directed by Sen, and produced by Studio 9 and StudioNext, the series features an ensemble cast and will stream exclusively on Sony LIV from March 19.
