St. Judes in providing care to children battling cancer

St. Jude India ChildCare Centres (St. Judes) provides a ‘home away from home’ for children undergoing cancer treatment. These children, accompanied by their parents, come from small villages and distant towns where medical treatment for cancer is not available. St. Judes provides free-of-cost accommodation and holistic support to these children to improve their chances of surviving cancer and leading a full, healthy, happy life.

Founded in 2006 by Shyama and Nihal Kaviratne, and a dedicated group of volunteers, St Judes works alongside Tata Memorial Hospital, AIIMS, New Delhi, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati and various cancer hospitals in nine cities across India. We offer every family individual family units which are provided with all that they would need during their stay. Each centre has a common community space or learning area and shared ablution facilities, a common kitchen and a dining area. Each family has their own cooking stove in the kitchen and provisions for cooking are supplied every week.

Today, every day St. Judes provides quality care to more than 500 families at 40 centres in 9 cities: Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chennai, Vellore, Guwahati, Delhi and Varanasi.
