State Biodiversity Strategy unveiled by Arunachal Pradesh to strengthen conservation efforts

The “Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Strategy and Action: A People’s Plan,” which aims to reach national biodiversity targets and fulfill the Pakke Declaration, was formally introduced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday. With government backing, the plan, which is available in hard copy and digital formats, lays out specific action items to empower indigenous groups, communities, and districts in environmental stewardship. Khandu acknowledged the contribution of the Department of Environment and Forests & Climate Change, the State Biodiversity Board, and the WWF to the document’s preparation.

He emphasized that the plan aligns with the vision of “sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas, and sabka prayas,” which embodies the principle of inclusive growth and collaborative action. The five topics of the Pakke Declaration—environment, climate resilience, well-being, sustainable livelihoods, and cooperative action—are all supported by the action plan. Khandu noted that it will establish Arunachal Pradesh as a leader in conservation and significantly contribute to the implementation of India’s Sustainable Development Goals.

India has made great strides in environmental protection under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction thanks to a number of programs, including the Jal Jeevan Mission and the National Mission for Green India. The Chief Minister’s Office will have a dedicated cell for overseeing the action plan and related initiatives in order to ensure its efficient execution. Khandu urged all parties involved, especially students, to support the strategy and take on the role of community environmental stewards.
