The Mizoram government has launched a mobile application to facilitate quick communication and information sharing in the event of a disaster. The ‘Khuarel’ app was unveiled by Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Lalnilawma in Aizawl. The programme was organized jointly by the Disaster Management & Rehabilitation (DM&R) Department and Buannel Geo Solutions & Services. The platform aims to enable instant communication between the public, government agencies, and disaster management authorities.
While delivering his speech at the launch, Lalnilawma stated that the Khuarel App is designed to enable quick communication and information sharing between the public, DM&R Department, and the State & District Disaster Management Authorities (SDMA & DDMA) whenever disasters occur. It will also allow for proper and systematic recording of disaster-related data. The Minister also expressed appreciation for the joint effort of the DM&R Department and Buannel Geo Solutions & Services in developing the app, describing it as a significant milestone for Mizoram. He further highlighted that Mizoram is the first among the northeastern states of India to introduce such an advanced application. The Minister urged all citizens of Mizoram to download and actively use this simple yet highly useful app.
Speaking at the event, Udit Prakash Rai, Commissioner & Secretary of DM&R, emphasized the usefulness of the Khuarel App. He noted that the public will now be able to report disaster incidents directly and promptly to the DM&R Department and DDMA. At the same time, the authorities will be able to quickly disseminate important disaster-related information to the public through the app. This, he said, will strengthen disaster response efforts and enhance coordination and cooperation among different districts and departments across Mizoram, making the system more efficient and accessible.
Buannel Geo Solutions & Services also conducted a demo presentation explaining how the “Khuarel App”operates and how it should be used. During the presentation, they provided a detailed and comprehensive demonstration of the app’s usage. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chuauhnuna, Director of DM&R.
