Stone pelting, lathi charge reported in Assam against eviction drive

Evacuation operations are ongoing in three districts of Assam. The Government of Assam has successfully liberated hundreds of hectares of land in rural and forest reserve areas.

Recently, the eviction drive allegedly witnessed clashes between protesters and police personnel. Security forces used batons to control protesters who threw stones at them.

According to the sources, Digboi in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district, police forces carrying out the drive by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) lathicharged on violators on railway land near Bogapani station when they threw stones to stop the eviction.

The Himanta Biswa Sharma-led dispensation has been carrying out eviction drives in various parts of the state since coming to power in May 2021. And the operation will continue until the forests and government lands are cleared.
