The Save Taksing Save Arunachal Movement Committee (STSAMC) has described the Governor’s official denial of reports of Chinese PLA intrusion into the Taksing region as “unfortunate,” “condemnable” and “unacceptable.” The committee claimed that several civil society organisations, student bodies, political parties and local media outlets have visited the affected areas and independently reported alleged intrusions.
Questioning the Governor’s denial, the committee said that members of the Nah and Mra clans, along with the Tagin Cultural Society, had visited Taksing, physically assessed the situation and submitted written reports to the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Minister and the Governor.
The STSAMC further claimed that representatives of major political parties, including the NPP, Congress and PPA, as well as local news channels, had visited the areas and reported alleged intrusions and construction activities at Oying, Paniar, Morpan, Portang, Tinlingtang, CP-6, CP-5, Langju and Old Maja.
According to the committee, student organisations such as the AAPSU and ATSU also visited the Taksing sector and reported similar findings after assessing the situation on the ground.
“If the Governor still denies it, is he trying to say that the entire civil society, political parties and media are lying?” the committee asked.
The STSAMC said Arunachal Pradesh needs leadership that addresses the concerns of border residents and protects the state’s territorial interests. It argued that statements from Raj Bhavan denying reports of intrusion, if contrary to the situation reported by people on the ground, could undermine the morale of border communities and security personnel.
The committee also called for the Governor to take responsibility for addressing the concerns surrounding the reported incidents. It said that if the present Governor is unable to uphold what the committee considers to be the truth and protect Arunachal Pradesh’s territorial integrity, he should step down and make way for a Governor who, in the committee’s view, is more responsive to the people.
“Arunachal is not for sale. Arunachal will not bow to China,” the committee said.
