The Centre submitted a sealed cover note outlining its stance on paying One Rank One Pension (OROP) arrears to former service members, but the Supreme Court rejected it. The top court strongly criticised the administration on March 13 for “unilaterally” deciding to pay OROP obligations in four payments. The defence ministry recently sent documents defining the schedule for paying the ex-outstanding servicemen’s debt of Rs. 28,000 crore for the years 2019 to 22 before the top court.
