Surprise Inspection in Khonsa Market Uncovers 13 Violations of Legal Metrology Act

The legal metrology and consumer affairs department (Eastern Zone) carried out a surprise examination in Khonsa market in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday in an effort tosafeguard consumer rights and ensure compliance with trade regulations. Deputy Controller C S Singpho, who oversees the Lohit district, conducted the inspection, and participants included town magistrate Noklem Wangjen, who is Khonsa’s extra assistant commissioner.Seven trade units were discovered to have violated Section 24 of the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 by utilizing unreliable weights, measures, and weighing devices in business dealings during the operation.

Six additional trading units were also booked for selling packaged goods without the required declarations under Section 18(1) of the same Act. Among these were missing crucial customer details including the maximum retail price (MRP), the net weight, the name and address of the maker or packer, and the date of manufacturing or packing. The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules of 2011 and the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 were determined to be violated.
