Tata AIA revamps Vitality programme as wellness-linked insurance gains market relevance

Tata AIA Life Insurance has relaunched its Vitality wellness programme, combining life insurance protection with incentives for healthier living as insurers increasingly explore preventive healthcare to strengthen customer engagement. The programme rewards physical activity, health screenings and other wellness habits, with the company highlighting research suggesting that sustained lifestyle improvements could potentially add up to five years to life expectancy.

The enhanced offering lowers the daily step target for earning points from 7,500 to 5,000 and integrates Health Connect to improve tracking of steps, heart rate and other health data. Members progress through Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers, unlocking lifestyle rewards and potential renewal premium discounts. Partner benefits include discounts on fitness products, wearables and gym memberships through Decathlon, Puma, Google, FitPass and cult.fit.

Tata AIA cited a seven-year study of around 465,000 Vitality members, peer-reviewed by the London School of Economics, which found that moving from inactivity to an active lifestyle could reduce mortality risk by up to 57%. The company cautioned that individual outcomes vary and the projected longevity benefit is not guaranteed.

In Aizawl, the programme could appeal to customers seeking to combine financial protection with preventive healthcare. However, uptake will depend on awareness, affordability and access to partner fitness facilities and health services in the city.

Sujeet Kothare, Chief Business Officer – Proprietary Business, Propositions & Marketing, Tata AIA Life Insurance, said the programme reflects the growing importance of prevention alongside protection.

Tata AIA reported premium income of ₹38,164 crore in FY26, up 21% year-on-year.
