Tata Electronics commences Rs 1.18 trillion semiconductor ventures, PM Modi leads charge towards technological revolution

Tata Electronics initiated its groundbreaking ventures today under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The projects, comprising a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, and a Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad, Assam, are backed by a colossal investment of ₹1.18 trillion.The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, and Chief Ministers Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jal Shakti, joined virtually to lend his support to the event.N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd., expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for his visionary approach in positioning India as a global semiconductor hub. Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics, highlighted the monumental significance of the initiatives in shaping ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’.

The Dholera facility, in collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan, marks India’s foray into AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication. Situated near Ahmedabad, it boasts a hefty investment of ₹91,000 crores and is expected to create over 20,000 skilled jobs. Catering to diverse sectors including automotive, computing, wireless communication, and artificial intelligence, this fab will manufacture cutting-edge chips.

Meanwhile, the Jagiroad OSAT facility, with an investment of ₹27,000 crores, strategically positioned near Guwahati, is anticipated to generate over 27,000 jobs. Focused on critical semiconductor assembly and test technologies, it will play a pivotal role in key applications spanning automotive, communications, computing, and AI.These transformative initiatives by Tata Electronics underscore the conglomerate’s commitment to technological advancement and indigenous manufacturing, envisioning the creation of over 1,00,000 skilled jobs in the foreseeable future.
