Tata Motors expands alternate fuel portfolio with launch of Intra V40

Tata Motors has strengthened its presence in India’s growing alternate fuel commercial vehicle market with the launch of the all-new Intra V40, a bi-fuel pickup truck designed to enhance efficiency and profitability for last-mile cargo operators.

The Intra V40 combines CNG and petrol bi-fuel technology with a best-in-class payload capacity of 1,525 kg and a 2,960 mm (9.7 ft) long load body, enabling businesses to transport larger loads while maintaining operational flexibility. Powered by a 1.2-litre engine producing 58 bhp and 106 Nm of torque, the vehicle is equipped with a 110-litre CNG tank that supports extended driving range and uninterrupted operations across varied routes.

Built on Tata Motors’ proven platform, the pickup features a modern walk-through cabin, car-like driving dynamics, front disc brakes and a hydroformed chassis designed to deliver superior strength, stability and driver comfort. The company said the vehicle is aimed at meeting the evolving needs of transporters seeking lower operating costs and greater fuel flexibility.

“The shift towards alternate fuels in last-mile cargo transport is accelerating,” said Pinaki Haldar, Vice President and Business Head – SCVPU, Tata Motors Ltd. He said the launch further strengthens the company’s bi-fuel portfolio and reinforces its leadership in alternate fuel mobility, while its expanding electric vehicle lineup supports the transition towards greener transportation.

In Kolkata, the launch is expected to generate interest among logistics operators, distributors and small businesses serving the city’s expanding retail, wholesale and e-commerce sectors. The combination of higher payload capacity, fuel efficiency and dual-fuel flexibility could help fleet owners reduce operating expenses while improving delivery efficiency in one of eastern India’s key commercial hubs.

With the addition of the Intra V40, Tata Motors now offers India’s widest bi-fuel commercial vehicle portfolio, including the Ace Pro Bi-fuel, Ace CNG 2.0 and Intra V20 Gold. The range is complemented by electric models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000 and Intra EV Pickup. The company said the new vehicle will be supported by its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 ownership programme and Fleet Edge telematics platform, offering real-time insights, predictive maintenance and uptime optimisation for customers.
