Tata Power plans to establish a 10GW wafer and ingot manufacturing facility, marking its entry into this segment, CEO and MD Praveer Sinha announced on Tuesday. The company currently operates an integrated solar module and cell manufacturing capacity of 4.9GW. Ingots and wafers serve as the essential base materials for producing solar cells. Sinha said Tata Power is finalizing the plant’s location and technology. In Q2 FY26, the company’s solar operations produced 928MW of cells and 970MW of modules.
The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to localize the solar module supply chain and reduce reliance on imports. With this expansion, Tata Power will become one of the few renewable energy manufacturers present across the entire solar value chain. The company reported a 14% rise in consolidated net profit to ₹1,245 crore for the July–September quarter, driven by higher revenues of ₹15,769 crore, up 3% year-on-year.
Sinha highlighted Tata Power’s strong Q2 and H1 FY26 performance and said the firm is also exploring opportunities in nuclear energy and expanding its power distribution network to reach 40 million consumers by 2030.
