Angelina Jolie-starrer Those Who Wish Me Dead will debut in US theatres on May 14 this year, Warner Bros has announced.
According to Deadline, the Taylor Sheridan-directed Westerner will premiere on streamer HBO Max the same day as per the release strategy of Warner Media for the year 2021.
Based on Michael Koryta’s 2014 novel of the same name, the film is described as a female-driven Western set amidst a wildfire raging in the Montana wilderness. When a teenager witnesses a murder, he finds himself being pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness. Though there is a survival expert tasked with protecting him, the forest fire threatens to destroy them all.
Sheridan is the writer behind “Hell or High Water” and “Sicario,” and he directed the 2017 film “Wind River” and episodes of the series “Yellowstone.” He also produced “Those Who Wish Me Dead” with Garrett Basch, Steven Zaillian, Aaron L. Gilbert, Kevin Turen.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” will now open the same day as “Marry Me” with Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Maluma from Universal. Jolie is also meant to be seen later this year in “Eternals” for Marvel Studios and director Chloé Zhao.
The film is one of the 17 initially announced films on Warner Bros.’ 2021 slate that will be released in theaters and on HBO Max the same day. After a big performance for “Wonder Woman 1984” through the same model, the crime thriller “The Little Things” with Denzel Washington brought in $4.8 million in its opening weekend.
