Team ‘Hemanta’ from Kamrup Rural, Assam, has been shortlisted as one of the top 20 semi-finalists in Samsung’s flagship CSR programme, ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ 2024. Represented by 51 students from across the nation, these top 20 teams will attend a specially curated Innovation Walk at Samsung Offices and R&D Centres.The selected teams showcase remarkable geographical diversity, with participants hailing from remote locations such as Imphal in Manipur, East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, and Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Among the ideas presented, 25% of the youth track focus on water conservation and curbing water pollution, while 20% of the school track aim to reduce the digital literacy gap.
“Samsung’s ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ programme empowers students to address real-world challenges using technology. This year, we focused on encouraging participation from the remotest corners of the country, reflecting in the diverse representation,” said SP Chun, Corporate Vice President, Samsung Southwest Asia.The 20 semi-finalist teams will participate in a national pitch event at IIT Delhi, competing for grants and Samsung products to enhance their prototypes. The winners will be declared as “Community Champions” and “Environment Champions,” receiving grants of INR 25 Lakh and INR 50 Lakh respectively.
“Some of the ideas are truly inspiring and promising. We are excited to witness the journey of local talent that will boost the start-up ecosystem in the country,” added Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, MD, FITT, IIT-Delhi.First launched in the US in 2010, ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ is operational in 63 countries and has engaged over 2.3 million young people globally. Samsung’s CSR vision, ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People,’ aims to empower future leaders through education.
