Ten arrested in ANSU election violence

Ten people have been arrested by the Itanagar police in relation to the violence that occurred outside Siddhartha Hall on Monday night after the All Nyishi Students’ Union election voting was concluded. In an effort to apprehend the attackers who opened fire during the altercation, the police have also begun a manhunt.

When Ashok Doka’s followers tried to attack Nabam Dodum, a violent altercation broke out between Lezen Gyadi’s and Doka’s supporters. Five people were hurt as the altercation turned violent and involved the use of lathis and sharp objects, according to the SP. He added that although members of both factions fired and used firearms, no one was hurt by the bullets.

Tear gas and lathi charges were used by the police to disperse the rowdy crowd and bring the situation under control. Along with the supporters, a number of police officers were hurt as stones were hurled from all directions. Many, including the injured, fled as a fight broke out between the two groups in the hospital parking lot after the injured were taken to the RKM hospital.
