Tripura Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha on Tuesday accused the state BJP-led government of fostering divisions between tribal and non-tribal communities and creating unrest across the state. Saha also criticized the administration for adopting what he called an “undemocratic attitude” toward opposition parties and dissenting voices. Addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, Saha raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Tripura. He pointed out that the government allowed a ruling party protest outside the Congress Bhavan last Monday and expressed strong objection to the comments made against the central Congress leadership during the event.
“Congress has repeatedly said that the current government is divisive, encourages separatism, and undermines democratic norms,” Saha said. “The BJP is focused only on retaining power, even at the cost of democracy.” The Congress leader claimed that opposition and independent MLAs have faced attacks at their residences, and alleged that police have not taken adequate action to protect them. Saha also criticized Higher Education and Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman for remarks in which he referred to opposition parties and journalists as enemies of the ruling party.
“What kind of democracy is this?” Saha asked, expressing concern over the growing intolerance toward dissenting opinions and the weakening of democratic values. He urged the state government to take immediate steps to ensure law and order, protect citizens’ rights, and restore faith in democratic processes.
