A couple was arrested for selling their child for 1.5 lakh rupees to build a house in Katwa. Parents sold their infant son to a couple in Bihar for one and a half lakh rupees to make a house because there was no suitable house to live in! A couple resident of Ukhra in West Burdwan district caused a lot of noise in the area. They have been arrested. The matter came to light when the husband and wife quarreled on the street. A few locals overheard their conversation and informed the police. Police of Katwa police station of East Burdwan district have arrested four people on charges of child trafficking in foreign countries. The six-month-old child was also rescued.
According to police sources, Buni Bauri and her husband Achintya sold their child to Subhash Pandit for 1.5 lakh rupees 12 days ago. The arrested were produced in the Katwa sub-divisional court on Tuesday. The police have started investigating the incident by filing a case against them.
The matter came to light on Monday afternoon between Buni Bauri and her husband Achintya at 14 Kuthuripara near Katwa railway station. At that time, a 5-year-old boy was standing next to them and was crying. It is known that he had a problem with his wife because he spent a lot of money from the sale of children on reckless addiction. That’s when Achintya and Buni’s argument about selling their child for one and a half lakh rupees came to light. The people in the neighborhood informed the police after hearing it.
Achintya works in a sweet shop. It is said that Buni Sardar also works as a waitress. Twelve days ago they sold their six-month-old child to the well-known Subhash Pandit Champadevi. According to police sources, Achintya and Buni were arrested from Katwa on their way to Polsona village from Ukra on Monday.
