The EV36Zero project puts Britain’s biggest car factory at the heart of future vision

Nissan has invested £1.12bn into its UK operations and supply chain for R&D and manufacturing of two new models, inspired by three all-electric concept models. The EV36Zero hub in Sunderland will consist of three electric vehicles (EVs), three giga factories, and up to £3bn investment, benefiting Nissan’s 7,000 UK employees and the 30,000 jobs supported in the UK supply chain.

Nissan President and CEO Makoto Uchida stated that electric vehicles are at the heart of their plans to achieve carbon neutrality. The announcement follows Nissan’s confirmation that all new cars in Europe will be fully electric and expects its passenger car line-up in Europe to be 100% electric by 2030.

The transformational project includes future all-electric versions of Nissan’s flagship Qashqai and JUKE crossovers, as well as the next-generation Nissan LEAF. Both vehicle and battery manufacturing will be powered by the EV36Zero Microgrid, which will incorporate wind and solar farms at Nissan and deliver 100% renewable electricity to Nissan and its neighbouring suppliers.
