Former US President Donald Trump has demanded the release of those jailed in the 2021 US Capitol Hill riot, referring to them as “hostages”. “They’ve suffered enough,” Trump, who is contesting for the 2024 presidential polls, said at a recent campaign event in Iowa. Over 1,200 people had been charged with taking part in the riot.
