The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at eight locations on Saturday in connection with a case involving Maulvi Sarjan Barkati, the figurehead of “anti-national” protests in 2016, collecting funds and using them for personal gain, according to officials.
In order to look into Barkati’s fund-raising activities and his “anti-national” comments, the SIA, a division of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), filed a case against him earlier this year.
According to the officials, it is claimed that more than Rs 1.5 crore was obtained through crowdfunding and from sources that are thought to be related to terrorism and used for personal gain, profiteering, and the advancement of secessionist-terrorist initiatives.
