The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura staged a large protest rally in Agartala on Monday, condemning alleged derogatory remarks made by opposition leaders against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. The party also accused Congress, RJD, and CPI(M) of spreading misinformation to mislead the public and destabilize the state government. The rally, led by state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, saw participation from senior leaders including Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare and ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit, Secretary Devid Debbarma, MLAs, and other prominent party members. Protestors later staged a dharna outside the Pradesh Congress Bhawan.
Bhattacharya said, “Everyone is aware that in Darbhanga, Bihar, Rahul Gandhi of Congress and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav used abusive language against the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We strongly condemn this and have launched this rally in protest.” Minister Sushanta Chowdhury accused the opposition of spreading falsehoods against the government. “For the last few days, CPI(M) and Congress have been spreading slander against BJP and Prime Minister Modi across the nation, including in Tripura. They are misleading the public with false statements and trying to weaken the government,” he said.
Chowdhury added that the people of Tripura had rejected “dirty politics” by electing the BJP. “During past elections, Congress repeatedly made false claims and played a fixed match against CPI(M). But the people chose BJP because they have faith in our government, which is committed to serving all sections of society,” he said.
