Following violence in Manipur since past few days, more than 1,100 people Manipur’s Jiribam district and surrounding areas have crossed the inter-state border to enter Assam’s Cachar district.
The violence took place on Wednesday between tribals and members of the majority Meitei community in Manipur.
A 43 years old migrant was asked about the reason of fleeing out from their own native state. He said, “It was around 10 pm on Thursday when we heard screams in our area and it took a few minutes for us to realize that we had been attacked. They were pelting stones, threatened us and said that this is their final war.”
According to reports, most of the migrants are from Kuki community. Some of the migrants said that they held a peace agreement between the community but later the Meitei community attacked them burned their homes, thrown stones on them.
The Army has tried to control the situation but the community out of fear had to leave the place and take shelter in other places.
Also according to the sources, Cachar district administration are trying to provide all kind of facilities to these migrants as many of them have fled to the district for safety.
