Three arrested in Jogighopa for trafficking, 2 girls rescued in Guwahati

The Jogighopa police in Bongaigaon district of Assam have apprehended three individuals suspected of human trafficking. Identified as Arbaaz Khan, his father Papu Khan, and mother Bashiran Nesa, the trio was caught allegedly attempting to marry off a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh under false pretenses of travel outside the state. Case No. 114/24 has been registered against them under Section 87/143 of the Indian Penal Code at Jogighopa police station, where investigations are underway.

The proactive stance taken by the police underscores their resolute commitment to ensuring justice and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.Meanwhile, in a parallel incident, the Guwahati police rescued two girls, including a minor, from the clutches of traffickers in Bihar. The rescue operation followed a complaint filed by Rekha Devi at Bhangagarh Police Station on June 29, 2024.

Devi’s complaint detailed that her 18-year-old daughter, Sindhu Kumari, and another girl named Saniyara Parbin went missing after a disagreement over a mobile phone purchase request was unresolved. Upon tracing an extortion call demanding Rs 30,000 for Sindhu’s release, originating from Bihar’s Purnia district, the Bhangagarh Police swiftly mobilized. They dispatched a team to Purnia, where they apprehended Tanveer Alom, the individual behind the extortion attempt. Simultaneously, both victim girls were rescued unharmed.
