Three terrorists who attacked an Army vehicle in the Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir yesterday were shot dead by security personnel. Early Tuesday morning marked the end of the 27-hour operation. The terrorists opened fire on an ambulance that was a part of an Army convoy close to the Line of Control on Monday, starting the confrontation. By dusk, one attacker was neutralised, while two others were eliminated on Tuesday during a final assault near the Assan temple in Jogwan village.
After a relatively calm night, the combined Army and police forces launched a fresh assault at approximately 7 a.m., which resulted in heavy shooting and two more deaths in two hours. In addition to special troops, National Security Guard commandos, and BMP-II infantry combat vehicles, the operation also included helicopter and drone support. A new gunfight broke out when the security forces pressed for a last attack against the terrorists who were holed up at around 7 am following a nightlong truce, according to an official.
