Tipra Motha Party (TMP) founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has appealed to people to refrain from violence during the ongoing election process for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
In a video message on Monday, Pradyot Kishore said he had received reports of violence in certain areas and cautioned that such incidents could tarnish the image of the Tiprasa community.
“If during elections, you fight among yourselves, use abusive language, or engage in violence, it will only malign the image of the Tiprasa community,” the TMP leader said.
Elections to the 28-member TTAADC are scheduled to be held on April 12.
He noted that while a small section of political workers might be involved in violence, it is the larger community who has to bear the repercussions.
“Only a small percentage of political workers are involved in such activities, but the entire community’s name gets tarnished—not only in Tripura but beyond,” he said.
He also pointed out that both perpetrators and victims of such violence often belong to the same community, worsening its impact on society.
The TMP founder also appealed to the people to expose wrong doing without engaging in violence or taking the law into their own hands.
“The consequences of violence can have lasting social impact. It divides society and tarnishes the reputation of the state,” he said.
