The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD) has condemned the killing of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram following an alleged assault in Kilokri, New Delhi, and called for a swift and impartial investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the organisation said it was deeply shocked and saddened by Vikram’s death and described the incident as a serious act of violence. It said the circumstances were particularly disturbing as Vikram was reportedly assaulted after appealing for peace and consideration in his neighbourhood.
The TKLD urged the Delhi Police and other concerned authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. It called for all those responsible to be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The organisation also expressed concern over the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital. It said residents should be able to live without fear of violence or intimidation and stressed the need for authorities to strengthen mechanisms to respond to such incidents.
The TKLD expressed solidarity with Vikram’s family, friends and members of the wider Manipuri and Northeast communities. It also conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family.
Vikram’s death has brought renewed attention to concerns among Northeast communities in Delhi about their safety and security. Community organisations have stressed the importance of prompt investigations and effective legal action in cases involving violence against residents from the region.
