Top NFR railway officer drowns in Parshuram Kund

A senior railway officer from the North East Frontier Railway (NFR), Subhendu Kumar Choudhury, drowned in the Lohit River at Parshuram Kund on Sunday, November 24, while taking a holy plunge in the Lohit region of Arunachal Pradesh. The incidence was confirmed by Superintendent of Police Lohit. He stated, “Subhendu Kumar Choudhury, aged around 55 years, the Principal Chief Safety Officer of NF Railway, had gone to participate in a holy ritual at Parshuram Kund, where the river swept him away around 12:45 PM.”

The district police quickly launched rescue efforts, using every resource at their disposal. To help with the search, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been called in. The SP further stated that the operation will restart on Monday after being hindered by darkness. Choudhury was in Lohit with his family, who are now stationed in Wakro. They were all eagerly awaiting the most recent information on the search.

Thousands of devotees attend the holy pilgrimage destination Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh on holy days, however the tourists’ lives have frequently been in risk due to the powerful currents. This occurrence serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictability of natural water bodies’ hazards, particularly in places that hold cultural significance, as search efforts continue.
