Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga on Monday announced a “total lockdown” for two weeks from June 8 midnight.
The state has also decided to increase the quarantine period to 21 days from 14 days following a rise in Covid cases to 42 during the day, up from 24 on Saturday.
The decision was announced after a consultative meeting on Covid-19 with representatives of MLAs, government officials, non-government hospital association, Church leaders, village council members, taskforces and NGOs at Aizawl to discuss the state’s way forward over the corona issue. A detailed SOP will be announced soon, he said.
The fifth phase of ongoing nationwide lockdown continues till June 30 but with a lot of relaxations except in containment zones.
