Tripura BJP attacks Congress over flood relief claims

The Tripura BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of misleading the public with false statements regarding the state’s flood relief efforts. During a press conference on September 22, BJP Tripura Pradesh Spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty dismissed claims made by Congress President Asish Kumar Saha as fabricated and unfounded.

Chakraborty questioned the Congress’s commitment to supporting flood victims, stating, “How many Congress workers stood by the side of flood victims? In times like this, you must stand with the government instead of confusing people. All BJP leaders, ministers, and MLAs were on the ground assisting those affected.”

He highlighted the government’s response, noting that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for families who lost loved ones and Rs 50,000 for the injured. So far, 36 people have died due to the floods, with 33 families already receiving compensation. Chakraborty assured that all affected families would receive aid by the end of the week.

The spokesperson elaborated on the ongoing relief efforts, stating, “The flood lasted for five days, and over 3,000 people remain in 67 relief camps. Many homes, livestock, and personal belongings were damaged. Farmers have also suffered losses and received Rs 1,000 as initial aid.”

He further criticized Congress for claiming inadequate government action, asserting, “The BJP is committed to supporting all affected sectors, including agriculture and horticulture. We are working for the people’s development and ensuring effective relief measures.”
