Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on March 13 said that the state government has focused on welfare and development, as he referred to the address delivered by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on the opening day of the Assembly session.Speaking to reporters after the Governor’s address, the Chief Minister said the speech reflected the work carried out by the government during the past year and also indicated the direction of development planned for the coming months.Saha also spoke about the state budget, which is yet to be presented in the Assembly. He said the upcoming budget would focus on public welfare and development works across the state.“In the coming one year, how we will spend, what kind of development works we will carry out, and discussions on such things will be held; however, the budget has not yet been placed,” the Chief Minister said.The Chief Minister also welcomed the multilingual nature of the Governor’s speech. He noted that the address began in Kokborok, the language of the indigenous people of Tripura, before continuing in Bengali and English.
“It feels good to see how the Governor has given his speech in Bengali. He started with Kokborok. This is something new for us… later also spoke in Bengali and English. We have seen unity in diversity in language,” Saha said.According to the Chief Minister, the Governor’s address highlighted the major initiatives and development works undertaken by the government over the past year. He said the issues mentioned in the speech were already known to the public and were supported by members of the treasury bench during the session.“All such things people are already well aware of, and today, when he was speaking, the treasury bench MLAs supported it. This government has done a lot of work,” Saha said.He also said the Governor had mentioned only the main points during the address and that detailed discussions on various issues would take place during the Assembly session.
“At the end of his speech, the Governor said he had only mentioned the main points… Detailed discussion on this will be held, and the opposition will also get a chance to discuss, as well as the treasury bench,” the Chief Minister said.Meanwhile, Saha also commented on the election of a new Speaker in the Assembly. He said that legislators should extend their support to MLA Ram Pada Jamatia for the post. “He is from the Janajati community. He has been in politics for quite a long time and has also served as a former minister. So everyone should support him,” Saha said.
