Tripura CM Reviews Plans for Restarting Kailashahar Airport Operations

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is intensifying efforts to restart flight operations at Kailashahar airport, located in Unakoti district near Bangladesh, which has been closed for several years. He recently held a meeting with officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to discuss the airport’s revival, highlighting the importance of the facility due to its strategic location and historical significance during the Indo-Pak war in 1971. Saha indicated that the meeting addressed unresolved issues and strategies needed for resuming flight service. Additionally, AAI officials had met with Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to explore options for operationalizing the defunct airport. The transport minister noted that the Central government is interested in reopening the airport but emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan that includes land acquisition funding, which will be further discussed in an upcoming meeting with the Chief Minister.
