Four police personnel, including an Inspector, have been arrested in Tripura in connection with the alleged tampering of seized narcotic substances at Teliamura Police Station in Khowai district, officials said on Monday.According to Tripura Police sources, the arrests were made by the Crime Branch following directions from Director General of Police Anurag, IPS. The case was registered as Teliamura Police Station Case No. 025/2026 dated May 24, 2026. Police said the case has been registered under Sections 305, 306, 316(5) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 21(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The arrested personnel have been identified as Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, Woman Sub-Inspector Sampa Das, all attached to Teliamura Police Station, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Sachindra Debbarma of the SB Organisation in Khowai. According to police officials, the incident took place during the night of May 20 and 21. During a mobile patrol operation on May 20, police personnel intercepted a white Maruti Eeco vehicle and recovered a consignment of codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup. The seizure process was reportedly carried out at the police station. Officials said a later review of CCTV footage from Teliamura Police Station allegedly showed that a portion of the seized contraband was removed from the GD Room before the formal seizure and documentation procedures were completed. Police sources said preliminary examination of the CCTV footage indicated that around 245 bottles of 100 ml Eskuf cough syrup, which falls under commercial quantity under the NDPS Act, were allegedly removed and concealed by the accused personnel.

Investigators also alleged that the seizure officer failed to mention the full quantity of the recovered contraband in the official documentation process.“The complaint in the case was lodged by Justin Joseph, while the investigation is being conducted by Inspector Jayanta Kumar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station,” a senior police official said. Police sources further said all four accused personnel have been placed under suspension as part of departmental action.
