Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen passed away in a private hospital in Bengaluru on Friday morning. He was undergoing treatment for an illness for several months. Sen, 72, was the 11th Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly since June 21 2018, and a four-time MLA from the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief at the demise of Sen and extended condolences to bereaved family. “Pained by the passing of Shri Biswa Bandhu Sen Ji, Speaker of the Tripura Assembly. He will be remembered for his efforts to boost Tripura’s progress and commitment to numerous social causes. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this sad hour,” the Prime Minister stated in his condolence message on his official X post.
Chief Minister Manik Saha also expressed profound grief over the demise of the Assembly Speaker, terming his untimely death an irreparable loss to the state. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said he was deeply saddened by the passing away of the Speaker and described the loss as one that would be felt across the state. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members and followers of the late leader. Saha also prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and sought divine strength for the family to cope with the immense grief during this difficult period.
