Tripura sets ambitious goal for organic farming, aims to export bird’s eye chilli to Germany

Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on September 27 that the state government has set an ambitious target to cultivate organic farming on approximately 50,000 hectares of land, with plans to export Bird’s Eye Chilli to Germany.

The announcement came during a distribution event for transport vehicles (pick-up vans) to the Farmers Producer Company (FPC) at the SARS Complex, AD Nagar in Agartala. This initiative is designed to empower local farmers by enhancing their logistical capabilities, enabling them to transport their produce more efficiently to markets and distribution centers.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Nath outlined the government’s commitment to improving farmers’ incomes. “Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, our government has focused on scientific and organic cultivation to maintain environmental sustainability. We aim to practice farming without fertilizers and chemicals. We are taking all necessary steps to assist farmers from production to market sales. In the past six years, we have provided 30 such vehicles, and today we are distributing four more. We have formed 40 FPCs to support this initiative. Cultivation alone is not the solution; without sales, everything goes to waste,” he stated.

Highlighting previous successes, Nath mentioned that the state has successfully exported Queen Pineapples to Germany and has received a demand for Bird’s Eye Chilli. “We have sent pineapples to Germany, and there is now a high demand for Bird’s Eye Chilli. We are committed to cultivating more organic products, including scented rice. Before the BJP government took power, we had only 2,000 hectares of organic farming land. Now, over 20,000 hectares are under organic cultivation, with an additional 6,000 hectares added this year. We are introducing new technology to meet our goal of cultivating organic farming on 50,000 hectares of land,” he added.
