Tripura Sundari Temple to become major tourist attraction after redevelopment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to inaugurate the redevelopment of the Tripura Sundari Temple in Tripura’s Gomati district in March, according to Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

The beautification work, initiated under the PRASAD scheme after the BJP government came to power in 2018, is nearing completion, with only finishing touches remaining. Chowdhury mentioned that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha recently extended an invitation to PM Modi and HM Shah during a meeting in Delhi. The redevelopment project, funded by ₹38 crores from the Central Government and ₹7 crores from the State Government, includes new amenities such as stalls and facilities for visitors.

The state government is also focusing on expanding tourism across Tripura. A replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas is being constructed in Banduar, Gomati district. Additionally, with support from the Central Government and the Asian Development Bank, a ₹52-crore project for developing Chabimura is underway. Eco-tourism facilities are being developed at Unakoti, and three new eco-tourism sites are being set up on islands within the Dumboor water reservoir. These initiatives are expected to boost Tripura’s tourism potential significantly.
