Tripura to link all districts and subdivisions with double-lane roads

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday unveiled an ambitious roadmap to upgrade connectivity across the state by linking all districts, subdivision headquarters, and remote habitations to the national highway network through double-lane roads.

Speaking at the National Seminar on Infrastructure Development in the North East Region held at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, CM Saha said the state government is committed to transforming Tripura’s infrastructure to match national standards. He announced a proposed 449-km ring road around Agartala under the Bharatmala scheme to ease traffic and stimulate regional development.

Highlighting achievements over the past seven years, the chief minister said, “Infrastructure is the backbone of development — supporting industry, services, agriculture, and social empowerment.” He credited the Ministry of DoNER for prioritizing Northeast growth and quoted PM Modi’s statement that the region is India’s “Ashtalakshmi”.

Tripura currently has 923 km of national highways, of which 509 km are double-laned, with more under upgrade. The state also plans to convert 1,057 km of state highways into double-lane roads with paved shoulders.
