Tripura to transform 392 tribal villages with ₹141.82 cr scheme

The Government of Tripura has sanctioned ₹141.82 crore under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), aimed at transforming tribal communities across the state. The five-year initiative will cover 392 revenue villages, bringing comprehensive improvements in education, infrastructure, health, and livelihoods.

The announcement was made by Tripura Power, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath during a function held as part of the ongoing Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations at Hejamara and Lefunga RD Blocks. Speaking at the event, Nath emphasized the government’s strong commitment to ensuring grassroots upliftment of Janajati communities through targeted investments.

“This is not just a scheme; it is a vision to empower our tribal brothers and sisters and provide them the opportunities they deserve,” Nath said.

He detailed the allocations, noting that the Department of Tribal Welfare will implement the sanctioned projects across multiple sectors:

₹81.69 crore has been allocated for the construction of 20 new hostels, 2 Multi-Purpose Marketing Centres (TMMC), renovation of 16 hostels attached to Ashram, government, and residential schools, and 9 Barmadhikar (FRA) Cells.

₹14.28 crore is earmarked for building 119 Anganwadi Centres, improving early childhood care and education infrastructure.

₹1.12 crore will support fish farming across 28 hectares of water bodies, promoting sustainable livelihoods.

₹2.36 crore is set aside under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).

A significant ₹42.37 crore will be used to provide electricity connections to 7,677 households and 512 public facilities, enhancing access to basic amenities.

“These initiatives reflect the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the comprehensive development of tribal and Janajati communities through focused schemes like PM Janman and DAJGUA,” Nath noted.

The Minister also highlighted the progress made in education, stating that the government’s focus has led to the establishment of English medium, pre-primary, LKG, and UKG schools, where earlier there were barely any institutions. “Our priority is student development because they are the future of the country,” he added.

As part of DAJGUA’s student-focused efforts, a quiz competition on Janajati development was organized across the West Tripura district, including Lefunga, Mandwi, Dukli, Hejamara, and Jirania RD Blocks. Minister Nath, who oversaw the activities in the West District, personally attended the programmes in Lefunga and Hejamara.

“We wanted to inspire our students to think about their community, their culture, and their future. This is about sowing seeds of positive thinking and building a new society,” he said.

The DAJGUA programme is expected to make a long-term impact on the socio-economic development of tribal regions, by bridging critical gaps in education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure. It is being seen as a transformative model that other states could replicate in their tribal development strategies.

With implementation now underway, the Tripura government’s focus is on timely execution and active community participation to ensure that the benefits reach every deserving household in the tribal belt.
