Turkish Airlines reports strong January growth, passenger traffic reaches 7.6 million

Turkish Airlines reported solid operational performance for January 2026, carrying 7.6 million passengers as passenger capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), increased by 10% year-on-year to 23.7 billion. The airline recorded an overall load factor of 84%, with international load factor at 83.7% and domestic load factor at 87.5%, reflecting sustained demand across key routes.

International-to-international passenger traffic showed notable growth, rising 10.8% from 2.8 million in January 2025 to 3.1 million in January 2026. The airline also reported strong cargo performance, with cargo and mail volumes increasing 18.8% year-on-year to reach 178.3 thousand tons, underlining improving global freight demand. By the end of January 2026, the airline’s fleet expanded to 522 aircraft. The traffic results are consolidated and include both the Turkish Airlines main brand and AJet operations.

The airline’s capacity expansion and cargo growth could strengthen connectivity for the Kolkata aviation market, particularly for Europe-bound passengers and export-driven cargo segments. Travel operators and logistics firms in Kolkata expect improved transit opportunities, especially for pharmaceuticals, textiles, and perishable shipments, as global network expansion enhances route availability and cargo capacity.
