Two Accused Lose Bail in North Tripura Murder Case Over Threat Allegations

The North Tripura District and Sessions Court have cancelled the bail of two murder accused and remanded them to judicial custody after allegations emerged that they threatened the victim’s family and key witnesses to withdraw their statements. According to police, the accused, identified as Amit Sinha and Madhan Gopal Sinha from Sanicherra in Dharmanagar, were arrested in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old boy and the serious assault of his mother during an attack that allegedly took place on November 24 last year.

The two accused were initially granted bail by a local court on February 26 after the Investigating Officer (IO) failed to submit the charge sheet within the stipulated time. Police said that soon after their release, the accused allegedly visited the homes of the victim’s family members and other key witnesses and intimidated them to retract the case.

Following complaints regarding the threats, the new Investigating Officer, Usha Rani Nama, moved the District and Sessions Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to the accused.

After hearing the matter, the District and Sessions Judge revoked the bail of both accused and ordered that they be sent to judicial custody. Police said the court has fixed May 28 for framing of charges in the case.
