UK Unveils AI Regulation Bill to Tackle Deepfakes and Bias

The UK Parliament has introduced a landmark Artificial Intelligence Accountability Bill, which will require AI firms to undergo bias audits, watermark deepfake media, and submit to oversight by a new AI Safety Commission.

This move follows a surge in deepfake-related crimes and misinformation campaigns. The proposed law aims to safeguard both public trust and user data, while allowing innovation in health, finance, and education sectors.

Tech analysts in India’s NCR and Bangalore believe such legislation is urgently needed across South Asia, where AI use is increasing without adequate safeguards. The UK model could serve as a draft for SAARC-wide AI ethics frameworks.
