Union minister Rijiju pledges support for Sikkim’s remedial measures in Delhi talks

During his visit to New Delhi, Hon’ble Minister for Ecclesiastical, PHE & Water Resources Departments, Shri Sonam Lama, met with Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary & Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, to discuss crucial matters concerning Sikkim’s governance and development.

Minister Lama underscored the necessity for a parent ministry or agency at the Union level to oversee Sikkim’s age-old Department of Ecclesiastical. Highlighting the financial constraints faced due to the absence of central schemes and grants, he urged for the inclusion of the ecclesiastical department under central welfare measures. Additionally, Minister Lama urged for facilitating an early visit of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to Sikkim, expressing the state government’s readiness to host him.

Engineers and officials from the PHE department presented detailed remedial measures in response to recent natural calamities in Sikkim. Hon’ble Minister Kiren Rijiju attentively listened to these proposals and assured proactive steps for effective resolution. Minister Rijiju also extended congratulations to Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and the people of Sikkim for their resounding mandate in the recent elections. He commended Chief Minister Golay’s simple lifestyle and unwavering commitment to serving the people of Sikkim.
