Unity College celebrated its eighth Cultural Day with the theme “Roots and Resilience.” Vibrant performances highlighting the rich customs of numerous ethnic groups were part of the celebration and honoring of the country’s diverse cultures. Dr. Lichumo Enie, the principal of Unity College, emphasized in his welcome speech the value of respecting the diversity of cultures around us while preserving and enjoying one’s own cultural history. He underlined how crucial it is to recognize and value the distinctive cultural origins that serve as a community’s cornerstone.
Lotha Folk Song (Sükying Potsow), The Khujao – The Three Stars (a Tangkhul Folk Tale), Angami Folk Dance – Pheta, Long Drum Presentation – Tongden, Zeliangrong Folk Drama – The Story of Nsing, Assamese Folk Dance – Seksiki Porua, Bihu Special, Ni a Chokatso, The North-East Harmony, and Manipuri Folk Dance were among the fascinating performances that took place during the cultural program. The richness and complexity of the Northeast’s cultural traditions were demonstrated by these performances. Following a vote of thanks from UC Santa Cruz’s Cultural Secretary, students showcased traditional relics and cultural objects at the Heritage Club Exhibition. A bonfire marked the end of the day’s festivities, which made everyone feel welcome and joyous.
