Unity Trail Cyclothon Draws 650+ Participants Near Statue of Unity

A national cycling festival, The Unity Trail – Cycle on Sunday, kicked off this weekend at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada district, attracting over 650 riders from different parts of India. The two-day event, organised by the Cycling Federation of India in association with the state departments of Sports, Youth Services, Culture and Tourism, aims to encourage fitness, environmentally friendly transport and outdoor recreation.

Minister of State Dr. Jairam Gamit inaugurated the event and launched the five-kilometre opening ride. Participants ranged from seasoned athletes to hobby cyclists, student groups and enthusiasts who travelled from multiple states. Tourists and local residents near the Statue of Unity lined the route to cheer for the riders.

The cycling trails were laid out around the Statue of Unity’s scenic landscape, featuring gentle climbs and picturesque stretches. Organisers said the area’s natural terrain and rising tourist footfall make it well-suited for hosting national outdoor sporting events while supporting the local tourism economy. They added that the initiative is part of a broader push to promote cycling as an affordable, sustainable mode of transport and to raise awareness about its health and environmental benefits.

During his speech, Dr. Gamit highlighted how such events promote healthier lifestyles and boost regional economies centred on sport and tourism. Several dignitaries, including Nandod MLA Dr. Darshanaben Deshmukh, industry representative Boney Kapoor, CFI secretary Maninder Pal and officials from Gujarat Tourism and the Statue of Unity management, attended the event. Cyclists praised the refreshing route and community atmosphere, with organisers noting growing national interest in cycling events that combine wellness, nature and eco-friendly living.
